Replacement Grip and Over Grip
There are two kinds of grips for a tennis racquet. The overgrip and the replacement (main/factory) grip of a tennis racquet .
Over Grip
- An overgrip has to be placed over the existing replacement grip of your tennis racquet.
- Overgrip thickness ranges from approximately 0.5mm to 1.2mm.
- The overgrip provides extra absorption properties and heightens the moisture intake, improving your playing comfort.
- Never put an overgrip directly onto the frame. Vibrations will not be absorbed sufficiently, and this will increases the risk of injuries.
- Most overgrips come in packs of three, unless stated otherwise.
How to replace an overgrip on a tennis racquet?
- If applicable, remove the old overgrip first. Then remove the foil of the new overgrip. Carefully tape the thin end against the side of the widest area of the butt of your tennis racquet. While you keep a hold of the overgrip, turn the racket around so you end up with an overlap at the starting point. Right handed players turn their grip to counter clockwise (when looking at the end cap), left handed players turn clockwise (when looking at the end cap).
- Make sure the overlap is no more than 3 or 4 mm.
- When you reach the tape of the replacement grip, cut off at an angle the remaining part of the overgrip.
- Turn the last piece further around the handle and tie up the ending with the enclosed tape. The tape is elastic and allows itself to be tightly wrapped over the replacement grip and around the handle to give a secure and tidy finish.
Replacement Grip
How to replace the main grip of a tennis racquet?
- The replacement grip is the main grip which is already on the tennis racquet when you buy it.
- Replacement grip thickness ranges from approximately 0.9mm to 2.5mm.
- The main grip absorbs a large part of your racquets vibrations and plays an instrumental part in the level of playing comfort you experience from your tennis racquet.
- More and more tennis players are discovering the importance of a good replacement grip.
- Most replacement grips are individually packaged.
- Tip: Replace the grip at least as many times per year as you play hours of tennis per week. If you play 6 hours per week, then replace the grip 6 times per year.
